More about Chaz

  • 5 years' experience

I'm a licensed Psychologist based in Australia. I have worked as both a psychologist and behaviour support practitioner totaling over 5 years experience.

I have worked in a range of settings here in Australia. I've worked in clinical practice, hospitals, schools, child protection services, online telehealth and home visits. I have worked with people that present with autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety, trauma, schizophrenia, borderline personality, PTSD, grief, bipolar, insomnia, OCD and panic disorder as well as a range of life stressors and challenges. I have worked with people across the lifespan, from different cultures, religions and gender identifications.

I have spent a great deal of time understanding the roots of cognitive and behavioural therapy. This includes understanding the likes of Socrates, Aristotle and Plato. I have discovered in my time as a psychologist that teaching people to be a strong, critical thinker, can greatly assist in alleviating distress. I am in strong agreeance with Aaron Beck (Psychiatrist who founded CBT) and Albert Ellis (Psychologist who contributed to the foundations of CBT) that it's not necessarily the event, in and of itself, that creates mental health distress, but the interpretation or meaning we attach to it through our thinking. Therefore, my approach is primarily dominated by the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, however, I am flexible and will adapt as needed to best support the client.

Online counseling allows you to receive care from a mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
