Hello and welcome to the Better Help community! First, I want to acknowledge that seeking help and talking about mental health can feel very uncomfortable. Congratulations on taking that first step by seeking out a provider on this site.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with my doctoral degree from Spalding University School of Professional Psychology. I have been providing individual and group therapy for 11 years to a variety of adult clients from diverse backgrounds with many different clinical concerns and mental health symptoms. The majority of my clinical practice has been within the criminal justice system working with incarcerated adult male and female clients. I specialize in working with clients experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, relationship and parenting issues, and a wide range of challenges including grief/loss, insomnia, trauma, abuse, bipolar, as well as personal growth, adjustment issues, and crisis.
I would describe my approach as goal oriented, and client centered. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Both modalities are hands-on, practical approaches to problem-solving and emotion regulation. CBT treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking patterns and or behaviors. The goals are to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind difficult situations, and so change the way they feel. This helps people identify faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking and learn better ways of coping with life's full variety of stressors. The DBT approach encourages the learning of new skills to increase emotion regulation and distress tolerance so that you can better tolerate uncomfortable and painful emotions, thoughts, and situations and avoid the use of maladaptive behaviors such as destroying relationships with others, engaging in self-directed violence, and/or attempts to end one’s life.
Difficult and painful times are part of the human experience. I understand seeking help can be a vulnerable step to take. Exploring the healing process or enriching one’s personal growth requires establishing a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship. Change is not easy, but it is possible. During sessions, you can expect compassion and understanding. It is my goal to provide a safe space that is gentle, collaborative, and direct in order to help you better understand and find a solution to current or long-standing challenges through a trauma sensitive approach. I look forward to supporting and guiding you on your journey to improved mental health.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
