Hi, I’m Michael, known as Mick. I’m a Perth-based Credentialed Social Worker, supporting adults in English and Arabic with anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, stress, burnout and self-worth.

You might find yourself replaying difficult experiences, feeling on edge, questioning yourself or struggling to explain what is wrong. You may be managing work and family responsibilities while having little space for your own needs. We can begin with what is troubling you now, even if you do not yet have the words for all of it.

My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed and culturally responsive. We explore how past experiences, relationships and current circumstances affect you, while also working on practical ways to manage distress, communicate your needs and make decisions. Your culture, faith, family responsibilities and experiences of migration can be part of that conversation wherever they matter to you.

My EMDR professional development includes training with Graham Taylor, with case consultation. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. We can discuss whether this approach is relevant to your needs and what suitable treatment arrangements would involve. Assessment and preparation come before memory processing.

My work is also informed by my experience as a young carer for my father and by suicide bereavement. I bring that perspective alongside my professional training, while making room for your experience to be different from mine.

I am the Founder and Director of Lived Experience Solutions (LEXs) and the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Social Worker of the Year 2025. I hold a Master of Social Work and am a PhD candidate at Charles Sturt University, researching lived and living experience leadership in mental health.

You can use English, Arabic or move between both during sessions. You do not need to choose one language for the whole appointment. We can also clarify words or expressions whose meaning matters to you.

We begin by discussing what brings you to therapy, what you would like help with and how we can work together. You are welcome to ask questions and tell me when something does or does not feel useful.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
